NHS resources

The Live Well section of the NHS website is a gold mine giving you tips, tools and guidance about diet, healthy weight, exercise, sleep. I recommend checking NHS advice, as it reflects the current scientific expertise on nutrition and health.

The EATWELL guide in particular provides you with advice on how much of each food group you should eat to have a balanced, healthy diet.

British Nutrition Foundation

You can find nutritional advice on the website of the British Nutrition Foundation.

Public Health England resources

PHE’s mission is to « protect and improve the nation’s health and well-being, and reduce health inequalities« , which is a task I care deeply about. On PHE website you can find the latest reports about England’s diet and health reports which support nutritional guidelines and public health campaigns, such as the vitamin D supplementation advice.

Finding the scientific evidence

If like me you are interested in science and want to read the evidence behind nutritional guidelines, you can use NCBI. The website is not very easy to use, but a quick way to find your information is to google your topic + NCBI. Google will then suggest you scientific papers on this topic.
Be careful! Interpreting scientific papers requires practice and a critical eye: watch out for conflicts of interest, funding, size of the sample etc. I will write a detailed article on how to read scientific papers. 🙂 In the meantime, you can find a glossary here.
